Archaeological Finds from the Pearl Delta in Guangdong, China

Review: (by YUN Xiang, Institute of Archaeology, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences)The editors of the book discuss several major prehistoric sites located at the estuaries of the Pearl River Delta and on the islands in its vicinity. They emphasize the relationships between the natural environment and these sites as well as the relationships among these prehistoric sites. The 23 sties discussed are distributed over the Pearl River Delta, Macau and Hong Kong. They were invariably unearthed with characterized prehistoric remains, which are not only necessary for but also important to the prehistoric research in the region. They are also indispensable for comparing the prehistoric cultures found in the Pearl River Delta with other corresponding cultures found outside the Pearl River...The book contains abundant photos of antiquities that include photos of sites, remains, stratigraphy, and excavation. It not only contains glamorous photos of intact artifacts, but also photos of important broken pieces. It endeavors to depict specimens individually. Nevertheless, photos of grouped specimens and their archaeological context are in no way neglected.
